McKinney Performing Arts Center

McKinney, Texas
Architexas provided full architectural services for the exterior restoration and adaptive use of the 1927 Collin County Courthouse. The courthouse is a community “signature” building located in the center of the downtown historic commercial district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building had been vacated by the county since the 1970’s and given to the city of McKinney.

Through a series of programming meetings that included area merchants, citizens, and civic leaders, Architexas created a functional program and then adapted that to convert the vacant Courthouse into a multi-purpose community arts facility. The plan provided a space utilization design that maximized the space available. This utilization included meeting rooms, rehearsal space, gallery space and a performance space in the original District Courtroom. The project was completed under a Construction Manager at Risk approach and implemented in a short time frame and within budget constraints.
