Texan Theater

Athens, Texas

Architexas was engaged by the City of Athens to provide architectural services on the adaptive use of the City’s abandoned historic main street theater. Originally debuted on April 22, 1948, it was praised as being “one of the finest and most modern theaters in East Texas.

The scope of work included restoring the existing brick masonry walls, reconstructing the historic theater entrance, leveling the sloped floor, enclosing the building with a clerestory and dynamic roof, constructing a mezzanine, and adding a curtainwall/garage door system on the north façade. New lighting, HVAC systems, and restrooms were also included in the renovation. The flexibility of the 7,000 square foot event facility allows for multiple uses such as concerts, banquets, weddings, art shows, and other town events.
