Austin Community College
Austin, Texas
In 2016, Austin Community College began the rehabilitation project of the Rio Grande Campus. Built in 1916 as the John T. Allan Jr. High School and expanded in 1925 into the Austin High School, this four-story Classic Revival building featured utilitarian interiors within an elaborate exterior shell. The building is a City of Austin Landmark and required special review by the Austin Landmark Commission.
Austin Community College hired Studio 8 Architects as Architect of Record to rehabilitate the old high school into a state of the art learning center. Overland Partners provided landscape design, Hutson Gallagher, Inc. oversaw restoration of the exterior masonry, and Architexas completed construction documents for the restoration of all wood and steel windows and wood doors. Over 300 doors and windows were restored or reconstructed to match the historic configurations.
