Cibolo City Hall Annex
Cibolo, Texas
As one of the fastest growing municipalities in the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area, the City of Cibolo was quickly outgrowing their City Hall, increasing city staff to keep up with their flourishing community. As the pilot project in their downtown revitalization plan, the City identified the vacant historic schoolhouse, located a half block away from their City Hall, as the ideal space to house their Planning, Engineering, Information Technology, and Economic Development Departments. Peeling away decades of “modernization” uncovered original beadboard ceilings, plaster walls, and wood floors. A restored classroom on the first floor was adapted to be used as a community meeting room. A small addition to the west of the historic building was constructed to contain the elevator, utilities, and also to serve as the main staff entrance adjacent to their parking lot.
The project required significant masonry repairs, complete window replacement, reconstruction of the entrance canopies, and installation of all new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. As the first project to be constructed adjacent to a future community park, Architexas designed a vertical “green screen” along the west façade as an inviting segue on from the urban realm to the park space while also shielding the outdoor patio and stair from western sun exposure.
