Flagpole Hill Park
Dallas, Texas
Architexas provided full architectural services for the restoration and improvement of Flagpole Hill Park. Flagpole Hill is part of White Rock Lake Park, the City’s largest public park. Developed in the 1930’s under the CCC program, White Rock Lake contains numerous rustic structures and site furnishings that give the park its unique and historic character.
The project included the restoration of the park’s three historic structures – the flagpole overlook, picnic shelter and latrine. In addition, a new entrance gateway was designed to provide a new landmark along busy Northwest Highway. The new gateway takes its cue from the historic structures in the park and from design guidelines for all of White Rock Lake, also prepared by Architexas in 2002. The use of native limestone, the stone pattern, lighting and native landscaping contributed to the existing character of Flagpole Hill and White Rock Lake Park. The reproduction of the historic BBQ grills, wood picnic tables that are similar to the historic tables, wood bollards, and compatible lighting make the design for this park unique and tied to CCC traditions. Architexas also included the repair of roads, landscaping, restroom facilities and a new trail system to connect Flagpole Hill to the picnic shelter and the latrine.
