Hillsboro City Library
Hillsboro, Texas
Architexas provided master planning and full architectural services for the restoration and addition to the Hillsboro City Library. The Italian Renaissance Revival 1912 Post Office served the Hillsboro community until the early 1970s when it was converted to the City Library. The masterplan included restoration of the exterior and interior, accessibility to the entire building, expansion of the collection, genealogy center, and a new children’s library as an addition to the historic structure.
Phase I of the plan was completed in 1995, that included a new mezzanine in the library, increasing needed reading and study areas. Architexas is currently designing Phase II to include the addition of a new children’s library, a garden, and community meeting rooms to facilitate events. The addition was created to be a compatible contemporary design that integrates into the downtown context. The structure is a recorded Texas Historical Landmark, so strict compliance with historical guidelines was followed in the development of the master plan, restoration, and addition.
