Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center

Irving, Texas
The Bear Creek community was settled soon after the Civil War along the banks of Bear Creek and is one of Dallas County’s oldest African American settlements. Many of the important buildings in the Bear Creek community were lost over the years, however, in 1992 the City of Irving saved three buildings from demolition and relocated them to the Heritage Center site. The buildings included the Bear Creek Masonic Lodge, the J.O. Davis House, and the Sam Green House. Scope of work included master planning for the entire site and limited restoration work on the three buildings.
