Old City Park

Dallas, Texas
Old City Park is a public park bound by South Harwood Street, South Ervay Street, IH-30, and Gano Street in the Cedars neighborhood of the City of Dallas. It currently houses over sixty structures which are a mix of historic structures and their modern support buildings.

Architexas has been involved with Old City Park for nearly four decades. This involvement started when Architexas provided restoration and construction documentation for many of the buildings when they were first moved to the park and continued through the early 2000s as Architexas provided three master plans, updating the vision for the park as the surrounding Cedars neighborhood has continued to experience revitalization and re-investment to become a bustling mixed-use historic area, and restoration documentation for several structures.

Although numerous conditions assessments and master plans had been completed in the past, none existed that detailed the current conditions of the myriad structures within the park. Realizing this, Dallas Park and Recreation commissioned Architexas to create a new master plan for the park that involved a detailed condition assessment of the more-than-fifty structures in the park, rehabilitation recommendations and maintenance plan for the structures, and a new vision for the park that would transition it from its current form to an amenity for not only the Cedars neighborhood, but also Downtown Dallas and the entire city by integrating it into the proposed deck park over R.L. Thornton Freeway.
