Petroleum Building

Big Spring, Texas

The Petroleum Building is a six story Modernistic Art Deco Building in the central business district of Big Spring, Howard County, Texas. It was constructed during the Permian Basin oil boom, funded by a group of the area’s newly-wealthy citizens to provide much needed office space in a period of dramatic growth.

The development plan rehabilitated the building for use as class-A office space. The historic character, including the highly ornamented lobbies most of the original office suites, was restored while incorporating state-of-the-art infrastructure to meet the needs of tenants. The building was enhanced with the addition of a rooftop amenity deck overlooking the city.

Architexas was the architect of record and the preservation architect, providing project design and historic preservation guidance on the exterior and interior design, as well as technical rehabilitation and restoration treatments that complied with the federal historic preservation standards. In addition, Architexas prepared the required Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credit documentation to receive the Federal Tax Credit that includes the Part1, 2 and 3 of the process. Architexas also included the preparation of documents required for the recently adopted Texas State Tax Credits, Parts A, B & C.
