Sam Rayburn Library and Museum
Bonham, Texas
Architexas was commissioned by The University of Texas at Austin, representing the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum, to provide architectural services for the restoration of the 1957 marble clad building. The Sam Rayburn Library and Museum was built to hold the books, papers, and political artifacts of Samuel Taliaferro Rayburn. The longest serving Speaker of the House in U.S. history, Sam Rayburn served 24 terms in Congress and had the privilege of serving as Speaker of the House from 1940 until his death in 1961.
Architexas has addressed the roof and exterior maintenance concerns. The Condition Evaluation Report was undertaken in the schematic design phase of the project to provide a preliminary scope for the rehabilitation work associated with the 1957 library building and the 1972 Wright Patman Annex building, located on the back of the property.
In 2008, Architexas completed master planning and conceptual design services for a new 6000 square foot facility that will house a 100 seat auditorium for lectures and presentations, library staff offices, storage, and restrooms. In 2011, Architexas coordinated electrical and museum upgrades for new displays with a museum designer. This work was completed in 2013.
