UT Austin Student Union Building

The Texas Union Building serves as a prominent and welcoming presence on the West Mall entrance to to the University of Texas campus. Completed in 1933 and designed by noted architect Paul Cret, Architexas was tasked to determine the project scope of work needed to repair, restore, and rehabilitate the exterior envelope of the UT Student Union building and to develop an estimate of probable cost. The study also included evaluation of current codes and (TAS) Texas Accessibility Standards related to exterior envelope elements.
Upon completion of the existing conditions analysis and evaluation, recommendations were made for repair, restoration, and rehabilitation of existing elements. Each element was classified as being in Good, Fair, or Poor Condition, and then categorized according to priority as Level 1-Critical, Level 2-Serious, or Level 3-Minor. This type of categorization will assist the university in determining scopes of work to be undertaken if the project is phased based on priority.
