Waxahachie City Hall Annex
Waxahachie, Texas
Architexas provided a programming and feasibility study with full architectural services for the Waxahachie City Hall Annex-A Municipal Services Building. The new building is located within Waxahachie’s Downtown Commercial Historic District and across the street from the current City Hall. It also doubles as a municipal court, among other civic functions. The building provides open office space for five departments, shared conference spaces for the city and community use, and provides space to accommodate future growth needs.
The building links public parking at the back of the building through a covered arcade to a public plaza fronted by a new retail space. Additional public amenities include public restroom access from the exterior plaza, police office satellite office, and centralization of city departments that provide a “one-stop shop” containing all development services.
The style of the building draws from the Romanesque historic downtown buildings and the majestic Ellis County Courthouse. Romanesque civil buildings and many city halls were referenced, and aspects were incorporated into the building’s exterior facades. Guidelines from the Downtown Waxahachie Design Guidelines were reviewed and incorporated into the initial site and building design.
