Fannin County Courthouse
Bonham, Texas
Architexas provided preservation architectural design and planning services for the restoration and rehabilitation of the Fannin County Courthouse, in compliance with the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program (THCPP).
Consumed by fire in the 1950s and rebuilt in 1960, reducing the courthouse to a modernist style, Fannin County community and leadership chose to restore the courthouse to the original Dodson design. Because the original 1888 drawings were not available, Architexas utilized historic photographs, extant buildings of a similar design by the same architect, and careful examination of building components now scattered at various locations throughout the city of Bonham.
The completed work reconstructed the exterior of the courthouse to its original 1888 appearance. The interior achieved the goal of a functional county courthouse with state-of-the-art systems in a historic setting. The reconstruction also achieved the original national and state historical significance for the courthouse.
