Inwood Theater
Dallas, Texas
Architexas provided full architectural and interior design services for the design of a new lounge and bar in the existing historic Art Moderne Inwood Theater. The large historic lobby space was restored and subdivided to allow for the separation of theater patrons and for a bar/lounge, as the two functions were legally required to be physically separated. A separate entrance was designed, and an eight-foot-tall glass block and ceramic tile wall with a horizontal water feature were constructed. To provide the required separation, this low wall also preserved the character of the two-story lobby space. The Lounge has been successful and was mentioned in the November 1983 and June 2006 issues of Esquire Magazine, “The Esquire Guide to the Best New Bars in America.”
Architexas also provided full architectural services for the sub-division of the balcony for two additional auditoriums, making the facility a multiplex, three-screen theater. The large auditorium downstairs was rehabilitated, and a new projection and state-of-the-art audio system were installed.
