McKinney Performing Arts Center

McKinney, Texas
Architexas provided full architectural services for the exterior restoration and adaptive use of the 1927 Collin County Courthouse. The courthouse was vacated by the county in the 1970s and given to the City of McKinney.

The exterior and interior conditions made the building uninhabitable and limited the possibilities of its potential use. Architexas assessed the conditions of the building and, in close conversion with the City, set up a series of programming meetings that included area merchants, citizens, and civic leaders. This process allowed Architexas to create a functional and viable program that adapted and converted the vacant courthouse into a multi-purpose community arts facility.

A new space utilization design was developed; it allowed for the courthouse’s interior to have meeting rooms, rehearsal and gallery space, and a performance theater in the original District Courtroom. As part of the new program and use, many new auxiliary spaces for the patrons, performers, and the public were designed, providing much-needed services and life & safety conditions. The exterior of the building received a full restoration, reinforcing the façade and refurbishing all exterior windows.

Architexas was retained by the City again in 2018 for exterior restoration and improvements.
