UT Austin Hogg Auditorium
Austin, Texas
Architexas had previously contributed to a restoration master plan for Hogg Memorial Auditorium and was retained to provide full architectural and preservation planning services for a Phase I renovation and restoration. The 1300-seat auditorium was constructed in 1932 as the University’s main venue for meetings, concerts, and theatrical productions. Although the stage lighting and rigging equipment were state of the art at the time of construction, by 2014, complete modernization was required.
Phase I of this project involved electrical and mechanical improvements, new motorized riggings, curtains, theatrical lighting, and control systems. A new high-definition digital video projector with surround sound audio was installed. Limited restoration of historic wainscot and other interior finishes was also a part of the first phase of work. In anticipation of a future full interior restoration phase, Architexas produced a complete historical finish analysis and report.
With the completion of Phase I theatrical upgrades, Hogg Memorial Auditorium is once again a state-of-the-art performance hall for the University of Texas’s flagship Austin campus.
