Nick Melde, Architect and resident Guitarist, has been promoted to Senior Associate. Nick leads our San Antonio production team on a variety of project types throughout the state of Texas from building documentation, design, drawing production and construction administration. His experience working with firms in New York City, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio has led to a diverse background of project types for private and public entities, ranging from restoration and adaptive-use of civic facilities to new construction for both commercial and residential clients.
In honor of his recent promotion, we sat down with Nick for a quick Q&A….
Q: Where are you from?
A: I’m from the eleventh dimension
Q: Where did you go to school?
A: UT Austin and UTSA
Q: Favorite Building in San Antonio?
A: I love many buildings here, but if I had to choose my favorite building in SA would be the Majestic Theater. It’s such a special place to experience live performances from rock n roll and Jazz to Broadway shows….especially if you combine it with a pre-show adult beverage at Bohanan’s across the street.
Q: First thing you did when you arrived to the office this morning?
A: Brewed some coffee
Q: Most interesting project you’ve worked on?
A: Through AIA-SA’s 2PLP Program, I had the opportunity to work with young leaders in the SA architecture community, with our mentors and with city leaders on a proposal to provide shelter, bathrooms, and medical care for the city’s homeless population. Rather than a building, we devised a mobile outreach fleet of vehicles able to be deployed to any site around the city; super convenient for and in-kind with the city’s urban nomads.
Q: Tacos or BBQ?
A: Brisket tacos
Q: Hobbies?
A: Guitar, fantasy baseball, exploration
Q: Office tool you can’t live without?
A: Is it a cop-out to say the internet?
Q: First move as a Senior Associate?
A: Moving into the San Antonio office….second move, hiring some help!
Q: Must-Do in San Antonio?
A: FIESTA and First Friday
