This year marks the 40th Anniversary of our firm. What started out as two architects from the City of Dallas Urban Planning Department working in the area of preservation and urban design, has since grown to be one of the premier historic architecture firms in the state. Craig Melde and Gary Skotnicki were joined early by a third partner, Mark Scruggs.

Our passion for the preservation of significant historic buildings, urban settings and landscapes, as well as our commitment to high-quality design have been present from the very beginning. Our first client, John Tatum – a local developer of historic properties – provided the early work that launched the firm. Since those early projects, we have enjoyed building excellent relationships with  governmental, institutional, and private clients throughout the years.

We are proud of the portfolio we’ve built and look forward to sharing our favorites with you. While our business has grown and evolved over the last four decades, our emphasis on excellence for each of our clients and our mission to create + conserve the built environment remain. As valued clients and friends of the firm, we want to thank each of you for being a part of our successes over the years and for the continued trust you have placed in us.

To commemorate this fortieth year, each month we will be sharing a newsletter highlighting the specific projects that helped shape us into the firm we are today. We hope that you will join us in celebrating #40yearsofArchitexas!
