Fair Park Master Plan
Dallas, Texas
As a consultant for historic preservation to Hargreaves & Associates, Architexas led the planning initiative within this comprehensive plan for the 277-acre Fair Park to address the expansion and alteration goals of the museum community. By involving the city Landmark Commission in the process, the plan was able to include compromises that address the need to preserve and the need for change. The resulting guidelines were then developed as an amendment to the city’s Historic District Ordinance in 2005-2006. The plan emphasized the need to create year-round use beyond the annual State Fair of Texas. The Architexas team developed design guidelines for the rehabilitation of historic places, contemporary additions, and new construction within the historic area. The plan also included the reconstruction of missing buildings, spaces, and art that had been removed from the original 1936 Centennial composition of buildings and public spaces.
