St. Edwards University Main Building

Austin, Texas
Architexas was selected by Baldridge Architects to serve as the preservation architect for the restoration of the exterior masonry, windows, doors, and stained glass of the historic Main Building and Tower at St. Edward’s University. Architexas also restored the ornamental sheet metal cornice, crosses and finials, and replaced the roof with an ornamental pressed metal shingle that matches the original. Existing conditions were studied and a restoration methodology was developed for each type of repair. Architexas then field surveyed the condition of every stone and window at the building to assess damaged elements and then prescribed restoration recommendations.

One of the unique challenges was to determine the most appropriate method of restoration and rehabilitation of the original windows while creating a more energy-efficient building envelope and still obtaining State Texas Historic Preservation Tax Credits for the project.

Architexas finished a preservation plan for the university in 2022.
