Ennis Downtown Master Plan

Ennis, Texas
Architexas, with Mesa + Planning, prepared a Downtown Master Plan for the City of Ennis, Texas. Ennis has an existing quaint, yet considerably solid historic district with turn of the century one and two story commercial buildings, many included in the National Register of Historic Places Commercial District. When the cotton production began to decline in the 1950’s and I-45 created a regional bypass east of the downtown area, Ennis began to realize the economic effects of a shifting economy and, as a result, the downtown began to decline. The town was in need of a Master Plan to help direct reinvestment and revitalization.

The plan consists of four sections that address the physical and economic aspects of the city’s downtown: the Assessment Section, the Framework Plan Section, and the Design Solutions that manifest the Downtown Master Plan, and a Preliminary Implementation Strategy. Primary design components include entrance portals, focus points, links, and catalyst projects for implementation as well as an economic strategy for the public and private sector.
