Zion Lutheran Church
Walburg, Texas
The historic church in Walburg, Texas was in need of an enlarged sanctuary for its growing congregation. The church, constructed in 1959, was undersized for its worship attendance and liturgical worship functions. The expansion converted a significant portion of the existing historic sanctuary into a large narthex and a new 550-seat worship space that reflects the Lutheran liturgical arrangements, with a focus on the altar and central cross.
The design plans also included an immersible baptismal front at the entrance to the worship area. The new worship space complements the existing historic sanctuary in form and material, incorporating preserved glass art into the new design.
